What is a CellSocket?
![]()
CellSocket is a cellular phone accessory that transforms your wireless phone
into an additional telephone line. CellSocket allows you to make and receive
cellular voice calls on a standard telephone in your home or office. It can also
be used in vacation homes, dorm rooms, RVs, or on a boat. Its built in battery
charger insures that your battery is always at full strength.
Is CellSocket
compatible with my cell phone?
![]()
Why should I purchase
a CellSocket?
![]()
CellSocket is the ideal
accessory for cell phone users who wish to use their cell phones in their homes
or offices. It is perfect for anyone who wants the convenience of using his or
her cell phone service while speaking on a comfortable, conventional telephone.
Maximize your cell plan usage. Take advantage of otherwise unused night,
weekend, and free long distance minutes included in your plan. When used with a
multi-line telephone, it allows you to select calls on either your wired or
cellular service. In marginal reception areas it provides enhanced reception.
For remote areas, specific models have and external antenna connection for
connecting a booster or external antenna. All
CellSocket models provide added safety by allowing you to use your cell phone
service while keeping the cell phone radiation away from your head.
Wouldn’t it be expensive to use a cell phone rather
than a landline phone to make long distance calls from home?
![]()
Using your cell phone
for long distance calling is quite economical. Most cellular providers offer
flexible plans, tailored to your needs. Many plans include free calls on nights
and weekends, as well as long-distance calling at no additional charge.
Why is using
CellSocket better than just carrying my cell phone around the house with me?
![]()
Home and office phones
are more comfortable to use and have better sound quality than small cell
phones. Leave your cell phone in CellSocket and carry your cordless phone around
the house. Forget about cellular “dead-spots” while wandering around your home.
Because your cell phone remains stationary, the call quality is more reliable.
CellSocket recharges your cell phone so it is always fully charged and ready to
go when you are.
Can
I use the CellSocket for my Internet/fax/modem/credit card terminal connections?
![]()
The CellSocket will work with certain devices that use DTMF to transmit information such as various makes of security alarm systems.
You will not be able use the CellSocket for Data including modems, fax machines, credit card readers or satellite receivers. The fault does not lie in the product, but with modern digital cellular networks. Digital cellular networks use compression algorithms that will not allow modem or fax tones to pass through the network.
We have heard success stories with analog cellular connections on older analog cellular phones at VERY slow data speeds; However, in the United States it is common for cellular service providers to deny an analog call to be made if a digital connection is available.
Note: Data transmission is not supported by
technical support and will not be honored as a return excuse.
What if I have safety concerns
about radiation from cell phones?
![]()
If you have a concern
about the safety of cell phones, remember that CellSocket keeps high-powered
cell phone radiation at a distance.
Why is CellSocket
better than just forwarding my cell phone number to my home or office phone
number?
![]()
First, when your forward your Cell phone to another number, this is typically
not covered in your minute plan, so charges for forwarded calls are
substantially more expensive.
With CellSocket, you
won't ever forget to do it, or to reverse the forward when you leave home or
office. You can keep using your cell phone for outbound calls to take advantage
of your free minutes and low-cost long distance that might be included in your
cellular calling plan. Also when using CellSocket, your caller ID will show only
your cell number and not your home phone number to anyone you call. Using
CellSocket for outbound business calls allows you the convenience of speaking on
your home phone yet billing to the call to the business cell account.
Do I need two-line
phones to use a CellSocket?
![]()
Two-line (or multi-line) phones are required to conveniently access both your
wireless and traditional wire-line service in your home or office. However, for
dorm, RV, boat, or other applications where the cellular will be the only phone,
single line telephone sets (either corded or cordless) will work just fine with
CellSocket, as long as POTS line is not connected to the single line phones.
How will I know which
phone is ringing?
![]()
Multi-line telephones usually feature distinctive ringing for each incoming
line.
How do I install
CellSocket in my home?
![]()
CellSocket is designed for desktop installation. Just plug a standard telephone,
either single, or multi-line into the CellSocket using the supplied cord. Then,
plug the included AC adapter into the CellSocket and a wall outlet. Drop your
cell phone in, and your ready to make and receive calls.

What if I already have
two traditional phone lines?
![]()
If the second line is connected only to your computer and used solely for
internet access, installation is no different. If not, you should purchase a
multi-line phone and treat CellSocket as one of the incoming lines. You can also
set up your CellSocket as a separate phone system by not connecting to any
existing lines used for land line service.
How do I install
CellSocket in an office?
![]()
For an office installation or any installation in which you will use your
CellSocket with only one phone, just plug the CellSocket AC power adapter into
the wall outlet and connect the phone connector (use the L1/L2 line input if
it’s a multi-line phone). Lastly, connect the L1 connector of the multi-line
phone into the telephone wall jack.

How will my home
answering machine and cellular voice mail work?
![]()
Unanswered calls are received on your home or office answering machine (or
telephone messaging service) as before. Unanswered calls to your cellular number
will automatically be routed to whatever voice mail message service you have set
up for that cellular number. If you do not have cellular voice mail service, you
may want to use a multi-line answering machine on your CellSocket.
How does call waiting
work on the CellSocket?
![]()
If the call waiting tone is heard while using your CellSocket, simply press the
Flash button on the telephone. This works just like call waiting on a
traditional telephone.
What about
caller
ID?
![]()
The Caller ID feature works on the Nokia CellSockets with GSM cell phones only. The Motorola CellSockets Caller ID feature work with non-GSM phones only. You will also need a telephone that supports caller ID to display the incoming numbers. If your phone does not send Caller ID to the CellSocket, the telephone will display CellSocket in the caller ID field. Note: Non-working Caller ID is the fault of Phone's software design NOT with the CellSocket!

Can I use CellSocket
in my vacation home, RV, or boat?
![]()
Absolutely yes. Using CellSocket in a second home (or RV or boat) is an ideal
application. Why maintain continuous phone service if you will only use it
occasionally? Simply drop your cell phone into CellSocket when you get to your
vacation home and use it with your regular phone. You can even cancel your wired
phone service and save. In fact, if you monthly phone bill in your second home
were running $25 per month, you would save $300 per year. This more than pays
for the cost of the CellSocket.
It sounds like some
people won’t need the traditional phone company anymore.
![]()
Some people could drop their traditional phone service. Then they could use just
one cell phone number. They would receive all their calls, whether at home or on
the go, and would have all their messages handled in one voice mailbox. Some
people could use CellSocket for their teen-agers’ cell phones. It’s like giving
them a private line.
